Viking comes to Hearthstone!

Eric the Viking doping a great hands on Viking culture presentation!

drop spindle

We used these to show the third grade how to use a drop spindle to make yarn. This craft goes all the way back to viking culture which they have been studying in class.
As an extra surprise I brought a special visitor.
Eric the Viking to visit!

Wool Angels & Fairies

The is is another first grade project. They learned to tie wool into lovely Angels & fairies then we tied them with fishing line to a grapevine wreath and made hanging mobiles.
They look very heavenly in the class room.

Finished Chickees!

This is what the 1st grade did with that wet felt fabric they hand made.
I brought in herbs & dried flowers for them to choose from and the stuffed these delightful chickees with herbs like lavender, chamomile, spearmint & Rose.
They then used pieces of Sari fabric to sew around the border for embellishment. Finally they added wood beads for the eyes and a feather for the tail.
I am amazed at what these little hands were able to make.
I am so proud of these Chickees . Each so Unique and lovely!
They got to take them home in a basket of real Easter grass they grew.
